At the AWS Summit in San Francisco Ariel Kelman, AWS VP of Worldwide Marketing, has made a big announcement: Amazon is rolling out a new Artificial Intelligence platform for building conversational interfaces. The platform is called Amazon Lex.
Amazon Lex Permits Creating Chatbot Apps Based on Artificial Intelligence
Lex is the natural language understanding (NLA) and automatic speech recognition (ASR) technology behind Alexa. The service enables building all kinds of conversational applications, making them interactive in the same way as Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant. Lex allows adding voice or text chatbots to mobile devices, web apps, and chat services such as Facebook Messenger, Slack, and Twilio SMS.
The tool will be improved by using Artificial Intelligence. Amazon plans to streamline the process users send inputs to Lex-powered apps in order to improve the platform’s ability to understand more commands.

The console guides you through the process of building and integrating a multi-step conversational interface into an application.
You can easily integrate with many other services on the AWS platform including Amazon Cognito and Amazon DynamoDB.

Lex Is Not to Be to Confused With Alexa
Alexa can be used for common tasks like checking emails and the news, creating shopping lists, etc. Lex is designed for companies to deliver a service based on what users say to the platform. For example, a pizza delivery company can set up Lex to ask a client for a topping after getting an input for an order. Moreover, Lex could be set to ask if a user would like to make his/her standard order – a large pepperoni pizza and a coke for $9.95.
